The 2020s
In 2020, HCSG supported thousands of communities nationwide throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the company established the Going Beyond Assistance Fund, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting employees facing hardship, and launched the Leadership Empowerment Apprenticeship Program. By 2022, the Best of HCSG Awards were introduced to recognize outstanding team members. In 2024, HCSG launched the District Manager Development Program, reinforcing our continued investment in mentorship and leadership development.

The 2010s
In 2012, HCSG surpassed $1 billion in annual sales and was named one of Forbes’ America’s Most Trustworthy Companies. Ted Wahl became President and CEO in 2015, and in 2016, the company was recognized as a Forbes Most Innovative Growth Company. In 2017, HCSG launched the Survey Excellence program and introduced the Going Beyond Recognition Award to honor employees focused on operational excellence. In 2018, the company joined the S&P MidCap 400 Index and received the Department of Defense’s Above and Beyond Award, marking a decade of sustained innovation and excellence.

In 1992, HCSG achieved a significant milestone by surpassing $100 million in annual sales. By 1993, the company formalized its divisional structure, expanding its client base across the Midwest, Southwest, and Far West regions. In 1997, HCSG enhanced its service offerings by incorporating Dining and Nutrition management, demonstrating its commitment to providing comprehensive care. This decade was characterized by growth, innovation, and notable achievements, establishing a strong foundation for future success.

The '80s
In 1982, the Northeast Division was established, beginning with the first facility in Connecticut and expanding to nearly 50 facilities by the end of the year. In 1983, the company underwent a significant transformation, changing its name from Healthcare Housekeeping Systems to Healthcare Services Group, Inc., following a successful initial public offering that generated considerable interest. By 1984, HCSG continued its rapid expansion, moving into Florida and launching the Southeast Division, concluding the year by serving nearly 100 facilities.

The 70s

1976 - 1979
The '70s
In 1976, company founder Dan McCartney launched Healthcare Housekeeping Services, providing housekeeping in long-term and post-acute care facilities. By 1977, he introduced the Manager-In-Training Program, teaching essential management skills that are still used today. Then, in 1978, he expanded by adding laundry services, growing to 15 facilities by the end of the year.
